web development by rosa

Whether it be a business or personal portfolio, an online presence is essential. Today, when people are considering your business or service, the first thing they will probably do is check out your website. Let's work together to ace that first impression.

As a recently graduated Computer Engineer, web development has become a hobby and part-time job for me. My background is my strength; I have a deep understanding of web technologies and can use this knowledge to enhance your site in various ways: SEO, user experience, performance, affordability.

Why me?

  • Mobile responsiveness: I design websites that look just as beautiful and functional on your phone as they do on a desktop. I test your website on different devices including laptops, tablets, and phones, to ensure we serve the best version of your website to each of your visitors. This is important as the majority of website traffic originates from mobile devices.
  • Top-Tier Experience:My past work experiences involve evaluating the usability and user experience of websites for a nationwide company. In my opinion, this is the most important aspect of a website.
  • Affordability: Does it make sense to pay the same amount for a site that attracts 5000 users/month vs a site that attracts 50 users/month? Not to me. Based on your website needs, I can cut your annual costs into a fraction compared to competitors through the use of inexpensive, but highly reliable, cloud computing services.
  • Detail's matter, and I'm a detail oriented person. I test websites thoroughly to make sure every feature works as expected.
  • Finally, support new graduates :)

The Process

Please note, all websites have annual web hosting fees charged by the hosting provider (not us). Domain fees can be around $12-20 annually, and hosting fees can vary depending on a few factors. Ask us for details.

1. Discuss

To better understand your website goals, I will ask you some background questions about your project. For example,

  • Describe your project or business
  • What do you hope to achieve with a website?
  • How do you imagine someone using your website? Any specific features in mind?
  • How many people do you expect to visit your site (per month)?
At this point, I can provide you an estimate and we can determine whether to continue to the next step.

2. Design

The best designs are driven around content. For optimal results, please be prepared to thoroughly explain your project. The more details, the better. Some questions I may ask are:

  • What is your business objective/goal?
  • What services do you provide?
  • Does your company have any specific values?
  • Does your company follow a specific process with clients?
  • What sets you apart from competitors?
  • Do you have any licenses, certifications, or awards?
  • Can you provide customer testimonials?
If you'd like a website from an existing template, you can select one from any of my past works in the Portfolio above. Otherwise, we can take a look at competitor websites and you can request specific features or designs (ie: a menu, promo card, photo gallery, etc).

3. Feedback

To ensure we're on the same page, I will create an outline of the design and get your feedback. If you want to use photos you have of your business or your logo, I'll ask you for these. Once we have a design you're happy with, I'll start creating it. Don't worry, you can keep providing feedback or requesting modifications as we go.

4. Publish

Your website is now ready to be published. If you already have a hosting company or domain registrar in mind, feel free to go with them. Otherwise, I can set up and publish your website with my favourite service provider.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How long does it take to build a website?

The most important factor in determining how long the process will take depends on client cooperation. As mentioned in the Process section above, there will be a lot of questions about your project, so please provide answers as soon as you can. The next factor in determining the length is the design. This depends on whether you choose an existing design or a custom design. Generally, websites using existing designs will take 1-2 weeks to publish. Custom designs can normally be published in 2-3 weeks but may take longer depending on the complexity of the design.

  • Do I need to provide photos for the website?

If you would like pictures of yourself or your team, work, store, and so on, then yes. If you aren't able to provide photos, we can use stock images instead.

  • Can you make a blog or online shopping store for me?

At this time, we do not provide support for these features. But check again as we may in the future.

  • How do you build your websites?

I develop websites with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript combined with additional resources to make you a glowing website (Bootstrap, jQuery, WOW.js). I publish websites on Amazon Web Services (AWS), which is a low-cost, pay-per-use cloud computing service. AWS provides a range of services which are highly scalable, reliable, and fast performing, so this means as your business grows, your website can keep up. They also offer full flexibility and control over your services; no contracts, just monthly billing. You can cancel at any time or even set a monthly budget.

  • Do you design logos too?

I don't specialize in logo design, but I can create a simple one for you. If you'd like however, I can recommend a great place for you to get a customized logo. If you don't have extra budget for a logo, no problem, your website will still be beautiful. If you have a logo already, send me the files and I can include it in your website.

  • How will people find my website?

I use a few Search Engine Optimization tricks to get your website ranked higher on Google search, but marketing your business or website is not a service I offer. I can, however, create a Google Business Listing and put your business in a few other directories to help customers find you.

  • How can I make basic changes to my website, on my own?

I can show you how to make simple changes to the content of your website so you can modify it at your convenience.

  • How do you accept payment?

I accept cash, cheque, e-transfer, and major credit cards.
